Our Process for A/C Maintenance

We recommend scheduling an A/C tuneup at least once a year to give your system a good cleaning and catch small issues with filters, coils, and fins before they cause a breakdown. If we come for a tuneup and find something needs to be repaired, we’ll provide a free estimate upfront.

During your A/C maintenance appointment, a skilled technician will:

  1. Check for the correct amount of refrigerant and test for leaks.
  2. Safely dispose of any refrigerant that must be expelled. (It’s illegal to release into the environment.)
  3. In central systems, check for and seal duct leakage.
  4. Measure airflow through the evaporator coil.
  5. Verify the correct electric control sequence and ensure the heating and cooling systems can’t operate simultaneously.
  6. Inspect electric terminals and clean and tighten connections.
  7. Oil motors and inspect belts for tightness and wear.
  8. Check the accuracy of your thermostat.

Air Conditioner Filters

When it comes to A/C maintenance, the first thing to check is the filter. Dirty filters block airflow and reduce your system’s energy efficiency, causing a spike in utility bills. Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced.

Air Conditioner Coils

An evaporator coil is the part of an A/C system that absorbs heat. When it gets dirty, it can’t do its job. Outdoor condenser coils can also accumulate dirt and grime, reducing airflow. Both coil types need to be kept clean to perform as intended and reach peak energy efficiency.

Air Conditioner Fins

The interior and exterior fins on your A/C unit have different functions, but essentially, they keep your air conditioner protected from debris and help control airflow. If A/C fins are dirty or clogged, you’ll notice warmer air coming through your vents, which means your system uses more energy and doesn’t sufficiently cool your home.
